Bret Baier Reveals New Details About Kamala Harris Interview

Fox News’ Bret Baier said Monday that there are no preconditions for his interview with Vice President Kamala Harris, which will air Wednesday.
Baier, the network’s chief political anchor, will sit down with the Democratic presidential nominee in Pennsylvania, a swing state where polls point to a razor-thin race between Harris and former President Donald Trump, the Republican nominee, just three weeks before Election Day. This will be Harris’ first interview on the network.
Baier wrote on X, formerly Twitter, that “there were no preconditions to get the interview. No one has the questions ahead of time—except me. No topic is off the table. And if there is any editing—it will be very minimal for timing and will be editorially the same question and answer.”
The interview will be prerecorded just before Baier’s live show, Special Report, at 6 p.m. ET.
Newsweek reached out to the Harris campaign via email for comment on Monday.
Harris has ramped up her media appearances in the past few weeks after being criticized for her lack of interaction with the press. She has appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, The View, Howard Stern’s radio show, podcasts such as Call Her Daddy and The Shade Room, local media outlets in swing states and CBS News’ 60 Minutes.
Baier’s interview will give Harris a chance to reach a more conservative audience base. Former President Donald Trump, who frequents Fox News, interviewed with Baier in June 2023 and it drew in 2.6 million viewers, according to Forbes.
Baier previously shared his thoughts on Harris’ media strategy and his openness to having her on his show.
“What do I think of Vice President Harris’ strategy of avoiding the press so far? I think that it can’t last, and I think that eventually, there’s going to be a big interview,” Baier said at the Democratic National Convention in August. “I hope she comes on Special Report with me, and we’ve offered it many times. Eventually, she’s going to have to answer questions about her past statements and her past policies, and where she is now.”
Harris’ campaign in August shared a clip of Baier giving her “credit” for lowering some drug prices. In the clip shared on X, Baier said: “They have had success on big, specific medications, and bringing those prices down in negotiations.”
In 2021, Baier commented on Harris telling immigrants not to come to the U.S. amid an influx of migrant border crossings, saying on America Reports that her remarks were the difference between campaigning and governing.
“Campaigning, candidate Kamala Harris went to the border numerous times and said she’s standing with the immigrants and standing with the migrants who she said are being targeted by the Trump administration, that they should be allowed in,” he said. “Now she makes a statement, ‘don’t come,’ you will get turned away at the border.”
In late October 2020, then-vice presidential candidate Harris visited the Texas border.
